SALt Recognized at the ASEAN Corporate Sustainability Summit and Awards 2015

The ASEAN Corporate Sustainability Summit now on its 3rd year is a marquee event on the calendar of sustainability professionals in the region owing to its strong positioning, progressive theming that builds from the feedback year-on-year and most importantly the drive amongst the practitioners to exchange, enable and excel – the very purpose of our summit!

With increasing awareness on sustainability among organisations, there is a perceivable development in the right direction. But the incremental initiatives and silo approach is taking us 2 steps back for every step forward – since the challenges are growing at a much faster rate than the solutions. The impending ASEAN integration one of the most anticipated developments in the region, increasing public-private partnerships, growing corporate commitment to sustainable development are all great signs. BUT… Opportunities for the private sector, government, civil society organisations and academe who build our future leaders to engage, co-create and and achieve are endless.

This requires integrated thinking, a value chain approach, responsible leadership and collaboration across all stakeholders… a push towards creating sustainable value for all. This will be our agenda – fostering sustainable value.

Philippines ( via SALt) was the only Asian country to reach the top five, out of the 50 competitors in the Startup Nations Competition.

SALt promotes environmental and social responsibility by working to eliminate the sustaining cost in the country’s areas that rely on kerosene, battery powered lamps and candles as their main source of lighting.

The group produces a lamp powered by saltwater called “SALt lamp” which uses the science behind the Galvanic cell, the basis for battery-making, changing the electrolytes to a non-toxic, saline solution — in a safe and harmless way.

Themed as “The Age of the Entrepreneur”, the SNS 2014 held at the D.CAMP & Sheraton Walkerhill Hotel in Seoul. The event was attended by more than 1,000 participants composed of entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers and enablers from more than 40 countries.

SALt is the official Philippine representative by Young Entrepreneur Society (YES) to the Startup Nation Competition. YES is the host of Global Entrepreneurship Week in the Philippines.

YES director Henry Ong said the People’s Choice Award was given by the audience who were mostly Koreans and foreigners. “Though we did not win the big prize it is already an honor to be among top 5 out of 50 countries and only Asian country to qualify,” Ong added.
